The Inspector General of Government, Raphael Baku has said his office will reinstate new charges against the former chairperson of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Geoffrey Onegi Obel.
Obel who was accused of abuse of office and causing financial loss of sh8b to NSSF, on Monday august 23rd walked free after the court Anti Corruption Court dismissed the charges against him.
Justice John Bosco Katutsi of the Anti-Corruption Court made the decision because the IGG had failed to appear in court to follow up the case against Obel. The case had ‘hanged’ in court for four years.
The IGG says his office intends to reinstate charges against Obel because they were not served with a hearing notice.
The office of the IGG accuses Obel of forcing NSSF into a joint venture with a private company, Mugoya Estates to build a housing estate without first undertaking feasibility study.
