The Central Bank has announced it has upgraded its system to expeditiously process payments for public servants’ salaries.
The Bank of Uganda Banking System is meant to reduce delays and ensure timely payment and improve efficiency in the public sector.
According to the public service guidelines, public servants are supposed to be paid by the 28th day of every month which has not been the case for over a long time.
The system include Internet banking, online statements among others which will enable accountants clear all payments at their premises without going direct to the bank.
The director of banking at the central bank, John Chemonges has told journalists in Kampala that the initiative will significantly reduce cases of fraud and ghost workers.
