Makerere University staff strike continues this morning as President Museveni prepares to meet the demonstrators today evening at State House-Entebbe.
The chairperson of Makerere University Academic Staff Association, Tanga Odoi has told Ultimate Media today morning at Makerere University that they will continue the strike until President Museveni finds lasting solutions for their pension arrears.
The striking staff met President Museveni on Tuesday this week in Entebbe but they did not discuss anything with him as the President was busy meeting the head of the Anglican Church in the world, Rowan Williams. The members of Makerere University academic staff started their strike on Monday this week.
Odoi says they want President Museveni to direct the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) to pay their 17.7 billion shillings in pension arrears. NIC however claims that it acknowledges only 13 billion shillings. Odoi says they will not end their strike until NIC pays them all their money.
