MP Kamya urges government to invest more in tourism

The Member of Parliament for Rubaga North Betty Kamya has called upon the government to improve on its investment in the tourism sectors because it is a sector that has the capability of boosting the Ugandan economy if the government increases its funding to the sector.

Despite the potential that tourism industry in Uganda possesses, the government has not been keen or rather reluctant to seriously increase its investment in the tourism sector.

Kamya has told journalists in Kampala that it is unfortunate that with the potential that lies beneath the industry the government cannot is still reluctant to invest in such a sector that is capable of attracting a lot of finances to the Ugandan economy.

She says for instance Uganda has the biggest number of mountain gorillas in the world and has 1% of the world’s birds’ species.

Kamya says however even with such tourist attractions the industry is still struggling just because the government has declined to take the industry more seriously than it always does.

Though the government’s policies to protect the environment and bio diversity and the improvement of Uganda’s security in a bid to enable the considerable growth of the tourism industry are recommendable, however the government’s funding of the sector is still wanting.
