Baganda celebrate CBS Fm radio re-opening

Central Broadcasting Service (CBS) FM radio reopened yesterday at 9:30PM amidst ululation from its fans and supporters of the Buganda kingdom who came from far and wide. CBS FM radio which broadcasts on 88.8fm and 89.2 fm belongs to the Buganda Kingdom.

Central Broadcasting Service FM one of the most famous FM radios in Uganda was closed due to accusations of promoting sectarianism and inciting violence during the September 2009 riots of the blocking of the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi from visiting Kayunga.

But President Yoweri Museveni had for long been warning the radio station will be closed if its presenters continue to abuse him or host people who abuse him.

The CBS fans who celebrated in Nakivubo stadium and later camped at Mengo, the seat of Buganda kingdom thanked the King (kabaka) of Buganda Kingdom for having spearheaded the reopening of what they termed as their favourite radio. The Kabaka rewarded them with a bull and thanked them for the undying support to the radio stations and the Buganda Kingdom.

Some of the workers of the radio station praised the president Museveni for having fulfilled their request to re-open the radio.

It is not clear whether the workers who had sued the government for wrongful closure of the station and denying them employment will withdraw their case currently before courts of law.

The Kabaka in a message thanked the government for opening the radio without any conditionality. CBS has organised a grand party for its re-opening at Silver stone gardens in Lubaga where the fans will among others be served with the bull from the Kabaka.
