The Uganda Electoral Commission has announced that it will on Wednesday 27th..hold a meeting with all nominated Presidential candidates for the 2011 general elections to agree on their campaign schedules.
EC Chairman, Eng. Dr. Badru Kiggundu says the meeting with all candidates and their selected polling agents is aimed at harmoning the campaign programmes of different candidates in order to avoid clashes of venue where more than one candidate plan to campaign in one area at the same time.
Kiggundu speaking after the nomination of Presidential candidates on Monday appealed to all the presidential candidates to deliver their campaign programmes to the electoral commission as soon as possible and attend the harmonization meeting on Wednesday.
He says the nomination of presidential candidates which started on Monday will go on until Tuesday. Kiggundu announced that the official campaigns will start on Thursday 28th October after the harmonization meeting.
He says the campaigns for president and parliamentary elections will end on 16th February 2011, two days before 18th February the date set for presidential and parliamentary elections.
NRM Chairman Yoweri Museveni, FDC president Kizza Besigye, People Progressive party President Jabeli Bidandi Ssali had by writing this report been nominated to compete in the presidential elections, while DP’s Nobert Mao, UPC’s Olara Otunu, People’s Development party’s Dr. Abed Bwanika and betty Olive Kamya of Uganda Federal Alliance are next in line to be nominated.
