The leader of DP’s breakaway faction, Sam Lubega has been nominated to contest for President of Uganda after a long wait following concerns over his signatures.
Lubega who is contesting as an independent submitted signatures that he got using DP’s resources, including the party’s headed papers. DP is represented by its President General Nobert Mao in the 2011 elections. Lubega has been challenging Mao’s election and even tried to contest as DP official candidate though he failed to secure the court order.
Lubega appeared at the EC nominations venue at 10am but had to wait for over five hours to get nominated at Namboole stadium.
EC Chairman Dr. Badru Kigundu had earlier expressed concern that people might later challenge Lubega and the EC for not having been nominated according to the law since he used another party’s symbols.
Lubega and his lawyer however insisted that he hasn’t broken any law and should be elected, and any aggrieved person should instead vote the other DP candidate, Mao.
