The President of Uganda People’s Congress, Olara Otunu has been duly nominated to contest in the 2011 Uganda Presidential elections slated for February 18th 2011.
Despite rumors that the former UN under secretary general for children and armed conflict had failed to raise the required number of signatures to get nominated, Otunu turned up today afternoon and was declared to have fulfilled all the requirements for nomination including raising signatures from at least 75 of Uganda’s 112 districts.
Like other contenders, Otunu was allowed into the noimination quarters at Namboole stadium with only 20 of his supporters, among who were MPs, Benson Obua Ogwal, Okello-Okello, Dr Moses Apiliga and former External Security Organsation chief David Pulkol.
But EC Chairman Dr. Badru Kiggundu announced that Otunu had handed in the 7,500 signatures this morning to book his place in the presidential race.
Otunu later told journalists that if elected, his government will improve what he termed as collapsed health service delivery and infrastructure.
He however turned guns on the electoral commission saying although he registered, the current EC is corrupt and cannot organize a free and fair election. He called for its disbandment.
