High Court in Kampala has issued an order barring a newly introduced local news paper the Rolling Stone from continuing publishing the names and pictures of the homosexual.
A high court judge yesterday granted request filed by the Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) by ordering the newspaper to stop from publishing the names and photos it says are agents of homosexual.
Kampala High Court judge Vincent Musoke-Kibuuka said the publication was “an infringement and invasion of the right to privacy” of those identified by the paper.
The Rolling stone on Monday published 14 names of what it called agents with the headline “100 pictures of Uganda’s top Homo leak” calling the general public to hung them, something the sexual minorities Uganda are saying has put them under threat of being attacked by the public.
The groups Frank Mugisha said after the first issue its published caused a lot of harassment, torture on its members, citing one woman who was attached by the neighbors by throwing stones at her.
According to the Rolling stone editor, Giles Muhama, the aim of the news paper is expose the evils in society and homosexuality is one of the evils. He further said they are trying to prevent those who are seeking to recruit Ugandan children into the practice.
The rolling stone tabloid is unregistered paper but chief editor said after acquiring the license they will continue using other diplomatic ways of addressing the issue.
It should be remembered on October 14, 2009; David Bahati tabled the Anti-Homosexuality Bill in Uganda’s Parliament calling for the total ban of homosexuality in Uganda.
In Uganda, acts of homosexuality are not allowed and considered crimes against nature and humanity.
