Police in Hoima have arrested five thugs and recovered stolen goods worth over 20 million shillings. The five were arrested on Monday during a crime crack down operation lead by Hoima municipal Gomgolola internal security officer (Giso) Aziz Gafabusa in conjunction with other local council one leaders.
Gafabusa identified the suspects as Fred Ruliko, Ivan Mukwaya, Jackson Sunday, Bennon Waswa and Robert Tumwesige all residents of Kiryatete and Bujumbura outskirts of Hoima town. Gafabusa said the suspects were found stolen items from Rev Fr. Tom Birungi of Bujumbura Catholic Church.
He said the priest who is abroad, had his house broken into by the thugs two weeks ago stealing his house hold property worth millions.
Gafabusa said among the items which they have recovered and were stolen from Fr. Birungi’s house were 24 channel mixer, A TV set screen, generator, two electric guitars, sound systems and other electronic appliances.
Gafabusa says that the arrest came after one of the suspect allegedly approached his neighbors claiming to be having goods for sale. The stolen goods were valued more than 20 million shillings.
Peter Mayanja the Kiryatete east NRM chairman who was also part of the operation in the area said the arrested suspects have been terrorizing the area. He said Kiryatete is becoming a habitant for criminals in Hoima town calling for security vigilance by the residents.
