The Uganda Bureau of Statistics has released the November construction price index indicating that tough the price of cement has reduced, many construction materials saw their prices continue to increase.
Peter Opio, the principal statistician for energy and infrastructure at UBOS told journalists today that the construction price index has average 8.9% this year.
He said although the reduced prices of cement pushed inflation in the sector down, there has been a rise in the prices of other construction materials including lime, burnt clay bricks and tiles, electrical wire and cables and paint.
Opio says this implies that an ordinary person has to spend more on constructing a building now than before because on has to pay more for the materials required.
The Producer Price Index released by UBOS evaluating major hotels in the country also shows that the average price for hotel accommodation dropped by 4% for September and October.
The report however shows that service sectors like catering saw an increase in prices because many prices are set in US dollars, which has been rising against the Uganda shilling.
