Those planning public events should notify the police and involve security operatives or risk having their events stopped.
The Kampala metropolitan police commander Andrew Sorowen today announced new regulations requiring all event organizers to get clearance from the police.
He says the move is meant to protect the public against terror attacks following the July 11 twin bomb blasts in Kampala that killed over 80 people who were watching world cup finals at Kyadondo rugby club and the Ethiopian restaurant.
Sorowen says the police will not allow people to organize events without involving the police or well known security agencies. He says all places like markets, churches, weddings, public rallies should be secured and people entering checked.
Sorowen told journalists in Kampala today that the police will not hesitate to close premises holding events without proper security.
He also warned landlords to be careful with their tenants by ensuring tenants do not bring in unknown people, or offering accommodation to suspect people.
