The Observer media today ran a headline story quoting statement by Uganda Ambassador Ibrahim Mukibi warning over a loaming war with Egypt over the use of River Nile waters.

Mukibi is reported to have made the comment during the annual retreat of ambassadors held at Serena imperial hotel in Entebbe last weekend.

However the Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Ambassador James Mugume says Egypt and Uganda have a strong bilateral cooperation and cannot be at the verge of war as reported.

He says in the retreat never discussed the matter of Egypt, and the newspaper misquoted ambassador Mukiibi in his explanation of the historical aspects of the Nile water cooperation agreement.

Egypt and Sudan who want to retain superior powers over rive Nile waters are yet to sign the new Nile Water Cooperation framework agreement by Nile Basin countries that is aimed at making equitable use of Nile waters.
