The In-Charge of Kamuli District main Hospital Maternity Ward Sister Eunice Mbago has expressed concern over the increased unsafe abortions in the district.
Mbago says that in the first quarter of this year, 61 young women were admitted at the Hospital with abortion complications followed by 12 more cases in the third quarter of the same year.
According to reports Mbago receives from villages she says that many patients do not go to hospitals if the complications are not severe.
She adds that most of the abortions are from discharging unwanted pregnancies using crude methods.
The laws of Uganda do not allow abortion unless in a situation that may endanger the life of the pregnant woman and it should be carried out in safely recognized places.
Many women rights activists and health rights campaigners have been campaigning for the government to make abortion legal so that many girls and women who get unwanted pregnancies can receive appropriate services.
