The Uganda Investment Authority has released a 2010 annual investment report indicating a substantial improvement in investments in Uganda.
The report shows that a total of 323 projects were licensed in 2010 of whom 143 are owned by Ugandans while 47 and 143 licenses were issued to Indian and Chinese investors respectively.
The State Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu says that the investment planned for the 323 licenses for the year was 1.7 billion US dollars with a total of job creation of 149,659.
The report indicated that China is still the leading foreign investor in Uganda.
Kamuntu dismisses claims that Uganda Investment Authority gives preferential treatments to the foreign investors than the locals referring to the report which indicates most of the investments are from Ugandans.
The Executive Director of Uganda Investment Authority, Dr. Maggie Kigozi noted that Uganda is attracting continued interest from other African countries, especially neighbouring Kenya and South Africa who made substantial investments.
