WOUGNET Coordinator Position available for interested applicants

Call for applications for a dynamic, self-motivated, innovative, organised and outgoing woman to head WOUGNET and support WOUGNET membership, projects and partnerships. The deadline for applications is Friday 11th February 2011.

Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) is a non-governmental organization initiated in May 2000 by several women’s organisations in Uganda to develop the use of information and
communication technologies (ICTs) among women as tools to share information and address issues collectively. WOUGNET’s vision is a society in which women are empowered through the use of ICTs for sustainable development. Our mission is to promote and support the use of ICTs by women and women organisations in Uganda, so that they can take advantage of the opportunities presented by ICTs in order to effectively address national and local problems of Sustainable National Development.

Presently, WOUGNET has over 100 women organisations as members, the majority are in
urban areas and/or district towns where there is some Internet access and a few in rural areas.
Over the period 2011 – 2013, WOUGNET’s overall goal is that women and women organisations are strategically and innovatively able to use ICTs for sustainable development. WOUGNET activities are conducted under four program areas: Information Sharing and Networking, Technical Support, Gender & ICT Policy Advocacy, and Institutional Development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

– Provide leadership in development and implementation of WOUGNET’s strategic direction to enable it fulfil its goal;
– Promote, represent and communicate WOUGNET’s vision, mission and values nationally and internationally;
– Build and sustain relationship with national and international institutions and networks that
promote WOUGNET goals and objectives;
– Be the Chief Executive of WOUGNET and a signatory to WOUGNET’s bank accounts;
– Supervision of all WOUGNET staff, including staff appraisal and development;
– Coordinate the planning and implementation of all programmes of WOUGNET, in collaboration with Programme Heads;
– Coordinate WOUGNET’s programmes with those of its national and international members and partners;
– Fundraising, monitoring and control of organisation’s expenditures;
– Preparation of all types of reports and documents of the organisation (where the
responsibility of preparation of any report lies outside WOUGNET, the Coordinator shall ensure
relevant information to prepare the required reports is available);
– Handle correspondences with donors and other partners on behalf of the Organisation;
– Promote good public relations and networking opportunities for WOUGNET;
– Coordination of all meetings of the organisation (Staff, Board, Annual Members
Meeting and other institution-related meetings);
– Liaising with the Chairperson and other members of the Board on matters related to the
implementation of policies and programmes;
– Ensuring coordination of implementation and follow up on decisions taken by the Board and general membership and;
– Responsible for the safe custody and preservation of all assets, valuable documents, records and files of WOUGNET.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have a minimum of a Masters degree / qualifications in Information and
Communication Technology (ICT), Humanities, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Gender and Women’s Studies or Law. They must have a minimum of five years experience at Senior Management level with a proven track record. Applicants should have a good balance of leadership, management, and programming experience and knowledge.

Skills, Experience and Other Requirements:

Knowledge of women and ICT issues in Uganda, regionally and internationally and/or
knowledge of women and human rights issues;

· Experience in leading and managing a diverse programme with a pool of professional
self-driven staff, keeping them sufficiently inspired, motivated and energised to deliver
optimally by embracing team work and collective responsibility;
· Preferably, the applicant must have knowledge and experience of working with network
organisations or development institutions;
· Demonstrate capacity in strategic thinking (ability to initiate and implement strategies);
· Experience in policy and gender analysis, programme design and management;
· Must be gender sensitive with excellent writing, communication and reporting skills as well as good public relations;
· Skills in project proposal writing, fundraising, action and work plans preparation;
· Computer literacy and basic financial management skills are a must;
· Financial management and accountability experience and orientation;
· Applicants must be willing to work with people of varying interests and aspirations;
· Be able to work under minimal supervision and meet deadlines and;
· Willingness and ability to travel and work outside official working hours.

Benefits

The WOUGNET Coordinator is a full-time position that is supported in part by grants from Hivos. The gross pay includes PAYE and NSSF dues. The appointment is a two-year renewable appointment, following a six-month probation period. Appointment renewal is based on performance as well as continued availability of funding. There will be a performance review meeting at the end of each year. This contract is subject to the WOUGNET Organisation Policy.

The WOUGNET Coordinator is entitled to 25 working days for leave each calendar year. She would be expected to provide at least two weeks notice before taking any leave. Due to the nature of WOUGNET’s work, she would be encouraged to take her leave in phases.
