Peoples Development Party (PDP) has threatened to pull back from the presidential race if Electoral Commission does not issue voters cards to those who will be allowed to vote.
Elias Wamala the National Campaigns Mobilizer of PDP presidential flag bearer Dr Abed Bwanika says that without voters’ cards to all the voters they are just escorting the incumbent President Museveni.
Wamala says that they will not wait to go to court while it is justifiably seen that elections will not be free and fair without voters’ cards.
However Wamala says that the top officers of the party will first seek the opinion of their President Dr. Abed Bwanika.
In a related development, Wamala says that the election poll conducted by PDP party in 100 out 111 districts so far covered by their candidate indicates that their flag bearer Dr. Abed Bwanika will be the second in the elections to be held just in a fortnight.
Wamala says the poll favors the Inter-Party Cooperation (IPC)/ Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Dr. kiiza Besigye and Museveni trails behind Bwanika in the 3rd position.
The EC insists that anyone whose name appears on the voters register will be allowed to vote. EC Chairman Dr. Badru Kiggundu says the EC cannot issue voters cards since the Ministry of Internal Affairs is in the process of issuing national identity cards.
But two leading opposition parties Forum for Democratic Change and the Uganda People’s Congress have filed court petitions seeking to compel the Electoral Commission to provide voters cards to all voters or postpone the elections.
