The Director for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Dave Eckerson has assured Ugandans that the United States government will continue to support Uganda through funding different programmes that improve the lives of all people.
Eckerson made the assurance during a meeting with Ugandan journalists in Kampala, in which he explained USAID’s activities and general US government support issues.
He said in FY 2010, USAID provided $341M in total development assistance to Uganda, with nearly 40% of the budget programmed for HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Education, Family Planning, Maternal and Child Health, Nutrition and Infectious Diseases.
According to a press statement from the US Embassy in Kampala Uganda, the United States government also funded Conflict Mitigation and Reconciliation in Northern Uganda, Good Governance, Trade and Investment.
During the long meeting with Journalists, Eckerson also talked about USAID’s history, budget, foreign assistance framework and recent results from US government funded programmers.
He explained that all USAID funding is a result of generosity of the American people, and that the U.S. Congress guides the type and levels of programming provided to Uganda.
