The President of the People’s Development Party (PDP) Dr. Abed Bwanika has dismissed rumours that he has thrown in a towel and crossed to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Rumours have been doing rounds in the city that Pastor Bwanika who is among the eight Presidential candidates in the 2011 elections has crossed to join NRM’s Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
But Bwanika today told journalists in Kampala that he is still in the presidential race as the flag bearer of PDP and has never considered joining NRM.
Bwanika who had to forego his plans to campaign in Mitoma (western Uganda) to clear the rumours in Kampala said that he is a man of integrity and cannot change .
Bwanika said that he cannot join a party (NRM) that is making its last kicks. He added that when he thinks of parties he does not consider NRM as a genuine political party.
He said that those who have been circulating the falsehoods are scared of him because he is the one to win the next week’s elections.
Dr. Bwanika said it is only a few selfish members of his party who had crossed to the ruling NRM party, and that their defections are not significant.
Those who have defected are the national party Chairman Emanuel Muzungu, General Secretary Godfrey Okello and the eastern region Vice Chairman Habib.
