Uganda Police hails Ugandans for peaceful elections

The Police have hailed Ugandans for the peace and calm exhibited during the presidential and parliamentary elections on February 18th and during tallying of votes.

The Spokesperson font he Police, Judith Nabakooba says the voting and vote counting were peaceful save for isolated incidents in less than 10 districts in the country.

She said the police noted some chaos in Isingiro, Ibanda, Serere, Kyankwanzi, Budadiri, Sironko and Kiruhura districts but they were not major, apart from Budadiri West in Sirinko where incumbent Nandala Mafabi was tussling with Minister for the Presidency, Beatrice Wavbudeya. Mafabi and a joulist, Julius Odeke were shot by a supporter of Wabudeya during supporters’ wranglers.

Nabakooba said in Serere District, she said, a police officer was seriously injured and disarmed after a mob attacked him.

“The process has been peaceful and I call upon Ugandans to remain calm during the tallying process and after the voting results are announced,” she said at the press conference at the media center that brought together the spokesperson of the army Lt. Col. Felix Kulayigye and Frank Mbaine of prisons service.
