The Uganda army has dismissed reports that opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye was shot by the army or police during Thursday’s walk to work protests.
Uganda People’s Defense Forces Spokesperson, Lt. Felix Kulayigye says Besigye was not shot and any such rumours are unfounded.
He says the soldiers were called in to beef up police in maintaining law and order after protesters in some areas became violent, while in others they blocked major roads.
Besigye has himself told Journalists that he is not sure whether what him was a rubber bullet or something else, but he sustained injuries on his right arm middle and index fingers.
Besigye was admitted and worked on at Kampala Hospital in Kololo and has been discharged.
One person has been confirmed dead and unspecified number injured in Thursday’s walk to work protests that left over 103 people arrested.
