Government defends the police conduct in quelling protests

Government has defended the conduct of the police in quelling the walk to work protest as responsible and normal.

The internal affairs minister Kirunda Kivejinja says the forces have all time used appropriate force when dealing with protestors.

Opposition politicians and some human rights activists have on several occasions accused the police force as being heavy handed when enforcing law and order.

Kivejinja says the constitution is very clear with agreement assented too by all political parties concerning demonstration and precession.

He says their clear guidelines on demonstrations and processions, political parties’ leaders’ engage in unlawful demonstrations outside the agreed frame work.

“If we are to have a progressive and law abiding country, political leaders should not committee crimes with impunity,” Kivejinja said.
