Barcelona FC held Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their semi final leg match on Tuesday to qualify for the finals of the Champions league on a 3-1 aggregate.
Real Madrid begun the match more brilliantly at the Nou camp with good passes and potency in the first 30 minutes of the night’s encounter.
But the Catalans worked their way back into the game and were the better side as the half time ended 0-0 with Barcelona pressing more. Real keeper Ike Caslias had to be at his best keeping out more than four strong Barcelona attempts at goal.
Barcelona’s dominance did pay off in the 64th minute when Andreas Iniesta delivered a perfect pass to Pedro Rodreques who slotted the ball passed the hitherto excellent Casilas to put the finals qualification beyond Real.
But Real did get a lifeline after some delightful play saw defender Marcelo slot in off Di Maria’s well calculated pass after the Argentine had a great effort hit the post with Victor Valdes well beaten.
Real Madrid Coach Jose Mourihno who received a red card in the first leg for protesting the sending away of Pepe was not in charge of Real and the galactico fans will feel the Portuguese presence might have had a good effect for them.
The match ended 1-1 and Barcelona who won the fist leg last Wednesday 2-0 qualified for the finals at Wembly where they will likely meet Manchester United who play Schalke 04 on Wednesday to determine who will qualify for the finals. The English Premiership table leaders Man u already have a 2-0 away goal advantage and should comfortably see off Schalke 04.
