Women members of parliament under the Net work of African women ministers and parliamentarians Uganda chapter have demanded to meet president Museveni over the inadequate maternal heath funding.
The chairperson of the Net work of African women ministers and parliamentarians Uganda chapter Sarah Nyombi made the demand while launching a five year strategic plan on maternal health at parliament.
She said that women MPS need to meet the president to seek president’s directive to the ministry of health and finance to increase the budget allocation for maternal health.
She said that government should allocate 22 billion shilling to maternal health to reduce on the number of pregnant women who die per day.
In Uganda, Ministry of Health statistics indicate that 16 women die during pregnancy or child birth.
