The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party members are in internal fight for who is appropriate for the post of Deputy Speaker for the 9th parliament that commences next week.
The NRM members who have shown interest are Peter Nyombi, Wilfred Niwagaba, Jacob Oulanyah and Fox Odoi.
The information from the NRM Secretariat is that some members like Nyombi and Niwagaba have neglected the protocol of applying through the secretariat denying the party a chance of fielding one candidate against the opposition candidates. Some sources say that Nyombi and Niwagaba have started open campaigns.
The NRM aspirants will tussle with the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Odonga Otto for the same post.
Meanwhile the unconfirmed information in circulation, is that the NRM party may replace Edward Sekandi (current Speaker) with Rabbeca Kadaga (Current deputy Speaker) who is likely to compete with FDC Nandala Mafabi for the post of Speaker of Parliament. The elections for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are slated for May 19, after the MP swearing-in on May 18.
