About 50 people are alleged to have been injured as a crowd of supporters of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party President, Dr. Kiiza Besigye welcomed him in Kampala on May 12.
The FDC party President has been in Kenya for two weeks at Nairobi Hospital undergoing intensive treatment after the Uganda security personnel splashed him with acidic pepper in the walk to work demonstration against high prices of food and fuel on April 28.
Besigye’s supporters, who were anxiously in need of seeing his repaired health after the treatment, turned up in large numbers and blocked all roads entering Kampala causing a lot of motor accidents in which people sustained injuries.
In an effort to control the crowds, the military and regular police exploded teargas canisters and live bullets hurting a score of people one of whom a woman who was injured in a saloon by a stray bullet at Kajjansi.
There are allegations that 5 people died in gunshots which the police spokesperson, Judith Nabakooba negates only confirming that two people sustained gunshot injuries.
