Twenty eight year-old Shaffik Higenyi a health worker with Fort Portal Referral hospital has been remanded to Katojo government prison for soliciting a bribe.
Higenyi a radiographer in the X-ray unit is purported to have asked for a bribe of 15,000shs from a patient.
Benon Twinomujuni aged 51 a UDPF soldier attached to Mbarara 2nd division Army barracks had come for an X-ray check up. He was residing in Kicwamba sub county Kabarole district.
It is alleged that Higenyi asked Twinomujuni to give him 15,000shs to attend him because it was a weekend and had other patients to attend to than him.
Twinomujuni explained to the health worker that he had no any coin to give him but he insisted that he would not work on him without that money.
Twinomujuni who was in great pain was forced to go and borrow the money from another person and he gave it to Higenyi when patients and other were looking at him.
After giving him the money, Twinomujuni went and reported Higenyi at Fort Portal police leading to his arrest on Tuesday last week.
Twinomujuni appeared before the Fort Portal magistrate court grade one presided over by Joy Nambozi today.
Magistrate Nambozi could not allow Higenyi to plea because her court had no jurisdiction to try him because of the capital nature of his case.
The magistrate remanded him to Katojo government prison till 24th May when he appears to the High court.
This is the second time Higenyi is being arrested for asking a bribe from the patients.
Late last year, he was arrested and remanded to Katojo for soliciting a 1,000shs bribe from a patient who later reported the matter leading to his arrest.
