Graduate students enrolled in select African universities can now apply for up to $10,000 CAD through the Africa Initiative Graduate Research Grant.Announced by The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), these grants will offer as many as 15 successful applicants an opportunity to conduct research and develop international networks in Canada.
The funding is a new offering by the exchange program arm of the Africa Initiative, a joint undertaking by CIGI, in cooperation withMakerere University. Special consideration will be given to proposed research covering one or more of the areas of conflict resolution, energy, food security, health, migration and climate change.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for African students to undertake new ground breaking research and collaborate with Canadians on important African issues,” says Nelson K. Sewankambo, Director of the Africa Initiative. “Students who participate will be able to build their professional networks and make a meaningful contribution to Africa’s growing research enterprise with the intent to improve the lives of Africans.”
Each successful applicant will spend up to four months at a Canadian university to undertake research funded by the program, and produce a major research paper to be considered for publishing under the Africa Initiative program. Students will be invited to present their research at a conference planned for 2013.
