The world is on May 17 celebrating the Telecommunication and Information Society Day to create a global awareness of the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and its digital use in linking the rich and the poor.
The first International Telegraph Convention and the formation of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a global telecommunications governing body is commemorated on May 17 annually.
The ITU will present the World Telecommunication and Information award to renowned personalities who have contributed in extending ICT to rural communities. The today’s theme is “Better life in rural communities with ICT”.
Yesterday, the Airtel Uganda Publicist, Joseph Kanyamunyu told the journalist that the company has erected about 200 masts in rural areas to link the less privileged people in villages with people in urban areas.
