Opposition leader Forum for Democratic Change {FDC} Dr. Kizza Besigye has arrived in his office at Najjanankumbi for the first time since the Walk to Work demonstrations began.
He has quietly driven from his Kasangati home, through the city centre via Wandegeya, the exact spot he was brutality arrested by security operatives about a month ago.
Besigye eluded police who had been deployed around his home and who on Monday arrested his wife Winnie Byanyima when she tried to drive out of their family gate for a 9am flight to New York in USA .
FDC party officials on Monday indicated that the heavy deployment and the mistaken arrest of Byanyima, meant Dr. Besigye was effectively under house arrest.
The police however appeared not to know in which car the opposition leader was traveling in and he managed to get away without any incident.
Besigye is now at the FDC headquarters holding a closed door meeting with party officials.
In the Monday incident, police officers intercepted Dr. Besigye’s car outside his gate early in the morning and towed it to Kasangati Police Station – only to discover that it was his wife, Winnie, who was heading to the airport to catch a flight to New York . Over the last five weeks, Dr. Besigye has been arrested four times attempting to walk or drive to work
