Women activists want government increase funding to stop sexual gender and based violence

Women activists’ organizations have argued the government to allocate more resources in tackling sexual based violence and its effects in the 2011-2012 National Budget.

In a report released by forum for women in democracy (FOWODE) women expressed that sexual gender based violence is such a serious human right and public health issue that should not be ignored in the budget.

In report titled “Where is the Money for Gender based violence in Uganda “calls on the government to consider sexual gender and based violence as a serious issue that affect women and girls of all ages and cross cultures and social economic backgrounds.

The report is based on the studies conducted in the four districts of Mubende, Kampala, Kotido and Yumbe.

Patricia Munabe the Executive Director of FOWEDE says they are concerned about the sexual gender based violence because it has a number of health problems like injury, sexual transmitted, death, disabilities.

According to the report 60% of Ugandan women have experienced physical violence 39% have experienced sexual violence while 16% have experienced violence during pregnancy.
