4000 Household in northern Uganda facing water shortage

Water crisis in northern Uganda has worsened forcing residents of Olano village in Gulu to share the same water source with Animals.

The parish Chief Michael Opoka Orala Oguru says over 4000 households has to waste almost 3-5 hours each day in search of clean water. Over 90% of the residents of Olano are formally internally displaced persons who were resettled back into their homes following decades of insurgency in northern Uganda.

Oka has called upon the government to come to their rescue before water born disease breakout in the area. The chairperson Local council five (LCV) for Patiko Patrick Komakech says some of the residents are fetching their water from river Unyama and Aringa which he says the water from these rivers are un safe for use because rivers run through urban centre’s’ where they are heavily polluted.
