The World Bank representative in Northern Uganda Veronica Bitature has said that more assessment of the region is underway to directly help the Former Internally Displaced People (IDP) who have gone back to their lands.
Ms. Bitature says that Northern Uganda has the potential for development unlike other regions because the north still has vast and fertile lands that can be used for development.
Bitature says that World Bank will first carryout thorough evaluation of the potential areas that can directly assist the returnees.
Bitature’s message has come at the time the Northern Uganda local leaders are decrying escalating poverty in the region. While in the Gulu district budget meeting last week, Kitara Makmot, the Gulu district Vice Chairman said that poverty is on the increase in the region and he attributed it to the reduced donors and government funding of some projects.
