Police besiege UBC as MD Musinguzi is thrown out of office

Police deployed heavily at the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) offices in Kampala on May 20 as the corporation’s Managing Director, Edward Musinguzi’s office was locked to deter him from entering.

The government has discontinued Musinguzi’s services along side the entire management board for reportedly mismanaging the corporation’s funds and other properties.

It is alleged that the sacking was ordered by President Museveni after reports that UBC top management is cancerous of corruption and mismanagement of the taxpayer’s money.

Other affected officers are the outgoing Minister for Information Ms. Kabakumba Matsiko, the chairman board Chis Katuramu. Others are Dr. Daisy Namono, Mr. Oola, Fred Bamwesigye, Prof. Pilkington Ssengendo, Tom Okrut and Mrs. Wandera all board members.

The Police surrounded the UBC buildings as other police personnel were   searching the cars and checking everyone exiting to avoid running away with the corporation’s properties and documents.

Kabakumba confirms the incident and says the work will continue normally since the technical team was not affected. She says the clampdown targeted the administration.

Paul Kahika is expected to take on the Managing Director’s office in the acting capacity as government investigates the alleged corruption and mismanagement cases in the corporation.
