MPS have warned President Yoweri Museveni to stop being the first person to go to trouble spot on the African continent.
This followed the media reporting that president Museneni is engaging heads of state for southern Sudan and Khartoum government who are guarantors of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in a bid to contain the escalating conflict between North and South Sudan over the contested oil rich border town of Abyei.
The Member of Parliament for Rwemiyaga County in Sembabule district Theodore sekikubo said that president Museveni should leave other heads of state to resolve the oil conflict in North and southern Sudan to avoid bringing problems to the country as it happened to Somalia when government sent its troops for peace keeping and Alshabab threatened to attack Uganda.
The woman Member of Parliament for Serere district Alice Alaso said that president Museveni is not the right person to mediate in the oil conflict in Sudan because he has interest in this oil and promised to import the crude oil from South Sudan’s Abyei region in order to curb the soaring prices of fuel.
South Sudan is due to become independent in July, but Abyei’s status not determined after a referendum on its future was shelved.
