The Government of Uganda has released copies of Oil sharing deal with private companies operating in the country.
The copies of the deal presented to the parliamentary library following amount of pressure from civil society organization and lawmakers.
According to Henry Banyenzaki, the Head of Uganda parliamentary Forum on Oil and Gas, complainants have in the past said the government secret dealing with Oil companies could turn the recent discovered oil reserves in the lake Albertan rift valley into a “curse”
Oil companies with deals in Uganda include UK based Tullow oil PLC, dominion petroleum LTD a unit of London listed Tower resources.
The details of the deals include the modalities on sharing of oil between government and companies upon commencement of production, pricing and taxation issues.
Winnie Ngabirwe the head of publish rate pay in Uganda a group that has been campaigning for transparency in the oil sector say the release was long overdue.
She said that they are going to scrutinize the content of these agreements and present the response to the government.
The government of Uganda discovered at least one billion barrows of oil along its western border with Democratic Republic of Congo. In March the government approved a joint venture with Tullow, China’s CNO Sea limited and French oil major oil TOTAL for the development of oil fields in the three blocks of Mputa I.
