Lack of adequate power distribution sighted as one of the drivers to population growth rate in Uganda.
The Government has reviled plans of using rural electrification to control the country’s population growth rate.
Currently Uganda’s population growth rate stands at 3.2% one of the highest in the country. Ephraim Kamuntu state minister for finance planning economic development has disclosed.
Kamuntu says that if power is well distributed in rural areas, it will foster more economic activity living little time for men and women to engage in sexual practices.
Speaking at the launch of the national population action plan, Kamuntu noted that although the power factor has contributed a lot other factor like high fertility rate, high teenage pregnancy and low child spacing are partly contributing to the management of population growth rate in the country.
According to the research conducted by the ministry, the young people growth rate has increased to 56% which has contributed negatively on the side of service delivery.
Kamuntu underscored the need for more skills in economic development among the youth in order to realize positive transformation.
He however argued parents to keep their children long enough in schools to avoid early marriages thus reduce the population growth.
