Construction of Karuma Falls Dam is set to begin in the next financial year. This has been revealed by the acting commissioner for energy resources department in the ministry of Energy and mineral development John Kanabi.
He says the Karuma falls Dam is one of the key projects under the national development plan in the energy ministry and that government is committed to allocation of all the funds required for the construction of that Dam.
The commission says the evaluation process is already ongoing and end soon to pave way for the biding process.
Increase in the Energy production in the country is one of the key priority areas the NRM government seeks to extend to all rural areas in country in a bid to fight poverty.
In the just concluded February General Elections president Yoweri Museveni said government is going to embark on more power generation to attract more foreign and local investors into the country.
The government has outlined boosting electricity generation among the key priorities of the 2011/2012 financial year budget.
