The Uganda Red Cross society has reported that over 1400 people in Manafa District are in dare need of agent relief following the recent mudslide that hit their area.
The 21st May 2011 mudslide affected 350 Household while five families had their houses washed away.
In a statement issued today Wednesday morning the Uganda Red Cross Society Secretary General Michael Nataka says there is need to employ early warning systems to enable communities vacate the affected to avoid more effects that may come along side disasters.
The Red Cross has already distributed household items to 50 families including soap, mosquito nets, Jerricans, Blankets, basin among other items.
The affected communities however remain in agent need of food supplies with their crops entirely destroyed by the mudslides. The wells and springs in the area have all been contaminated by the mud living the residents without access to safe water.
The area around the Mt Elgon remain prone to such disasters following mudslide that hit Bududa district last year living thousands of people displaced and hundreds dead.
