The commission that is investigating the fraud and mismanagement of funds in the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has said the mess in the authority is due to the Ministry of Finance’s lack of supervision.
The Chairman of the commission, retired chief Justice George Kanyeihamba says that the ministry should also be blamed for dispensing money to departments without putting supervisory mechanisms.
On asking the Ministry of Finance Public relations Officer, Magona Mweru how disbursements of money have been done to UWA, Magona told Kanyeihamba among others that the authority was given 15 million US dollars in 2002 to construct staff quarters at animal sanctuaries but since then the work has not been done.
The Commission’s secretary Denis Birigye also says that the whole mess is a result of negligence from the finance ministry.
