UNBS needs 4 billion to standardize quality control systems

The Ministry of Trade has been asked to invest 4 billion to have standard products quality control systems in place.

The report from the Sunshine Projects Ltd consultants hired by the trade ministry has indicated that Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) uses obsolete methods in handling the products qualities.

The report indicates that there is need to build capacity in the metrological laboratories and procurement of reference modern equipment.

The consultants also report that in place should be a calibration of reference standards and inter-comparison to periodically standardize references against international standards at least once in five years.

Procurement of standard weighing equipment, building capacity, recruitment and training of staff are other requirements the ministry should invest in according to the report.

Eng. Jackson Mubangizi the team leader of the consultancy says that if all the particulars in the report are done it will cost the ministry 4 billion shillings.
