Has opposition given up on walk to work protests?

For the past two or so weeks, we haven’t seen any of the popular walk to work protests that had come to characterize every Monday and Thursday of the week.

The leaders of the Activists for Change who led the protests have been insisting they are still going on but we haven’t seen much since FDC leader Kizza besigye was injured and taken for treatment in Nairobi. Besigye is currently in the US where he is reportedly undergoing further treatment.

But the opposition says they have not given up the Monday and Thursday walk to work campaign but says they are now just using other means to pressure government to work on the high inflation rates.

According to Wafula Ogutu, the Spokesperson for FDC, the past month when the campaign was on, more than 10 lives were lost and many people picked from their homes in the night and taken to unknown places of arrest.

Wafula adds that they care about people’s lives and property which forced them to rest the walk to work campaign and start using other complimentary packages.
