The Ugandan women have asked the legislators to amend the constitution such that suspects of defilement and rape are not bailed.
In a Kampala workshop, the Center for Domestic Violence Prevention (CEDOVIP) a local organization committed to fight domestic violence, said that there is a direct and long lasting social and psychological effect to the victims of defilement and rape, therefore the victim and the offender need to be separated.
The CEDOVIP Executive Director, Tina Musuya says that the two cases (defilement and rape) are more aggravated and any committer needs to be separated from the community.
Recently President Museveni said that he will ask the 9th Parliament that started operating this month to amend the constitution such that suspects of rape, defilement, economic saboteurs, rioters, treason suspects be held on remand for not less than 180 days.
However CEDOVIP does not commit itself on other cases as the President outlines them but points out at defilement and rape because of their direct impact to the victims.
