Kayunga district hospital is Grambling with acute shortage of blood for transfusion services.
The district Director of health services Dr. Edris Musisi says the hospital has been operating without blood for about one week after suppliers from Nakasero blood bank ran out.
Dr. Musisi says the shortage has been attributed by increased numbers of anaemic patients who need blood transfusion at different health centre’s in the district.
He adds that many cases requiring blood transfusion are now being referred to Mulago national referral hospital of which it is very far from Kayunga district.
This however comes after the national blood bank rejected blood donation by the members of the Activist for change A4C a pressure group that had organized to donate blood at the constitutional squire last month.
