Eleven ministers have been sworn in as Ex-officio Members of Parliament on June 7 in a function that was presided over by the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah
Those sworn-in included; Eriya Kategaya (1st Deputy Premier), Maria Kiwanuka (Finance), Ruhakana Rugunda (ICT), Jeje Odong (State Min. for Defense), Simon D’ujanga (Energy), James Mutende (Industry), Baba James (Internal Affairs) and Richard Nduhura (State Min. Health). Others were; Agnes Akiror (Tourism), Ephraim Kamuntu (Tourism) and Christine Ondoa (Health).
Ex-officio Members of Parliament are those who become Members of Parliament by virtue of being appointed ministers by the President. MPs in this category participate in parliamentary proceedings but are not allowed to vote on any matter in parliament.
After the swearing-in function, the parliament turned to President Museveni’s state-of-the-nation address at Serena Hotel where the president will also open the 9th Parliament officially.
