Former Prime Minister Apollo Nsibambi says the office was not a bed of roses

The former Uganda Prime Minister, Prof. Apollo Nsibambi has said that the Prime Minister job is a tricky one.

Nsibambi told reporters in Kampala that the office of the Prime Minister needs someone with patience because people you lead feel you are not so special from them therefore implementation of what you discuss is always slow.

Nsibambi, who was succeeded by the former Security Minister, Amama Mbabazi says that you discuss issues to present to parliament as members of one party (NRM) but on reaching there everyone reacts in their own way.

He says that other challenges are on accountability. Nsibambi says some ministers join offices with selfish interests that you cannot scoop out them. He says that Ministers do not want to make accountability even when they know they are stewards of the public.

The professor says there is still a lapse in encouraging serious accountability by government and asks those in offices to enhance accountability.
