The Malaysian government has asked its Ugandan counterpart to allow it sell palm oil in Uganda.
Rahim Zainol, a Malaysian representative in the deal says that the palm oil business will work as a bond between the two countries. Malaysia is the world’s biggest palm oil producer with 4.8 hectares of palm trees.
In Uganda, the only giant producer of palm oil is BIDCO with acreage of about 20,000 only and other small quantities being imported from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
If the government of Uganda approves the deal it will bring in competition that will save the citizens who are currently buying a liter of cooking oil at 7,000 shillings which is expensive to a regular Ugandan.
Apart from cooking oil, other products of palm oil include Vaseline, chocolate and vegetable ghee to mention.
