Uganda against NATO intervention in the Libya crisis

The Uganda’s representative on the United Nation’s Security Council, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has said the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) invasion of Libya is a disrespect of the African continent.

While in a the meeting between the United Nations Security Council and the African Union Mediation Committee, Rugunda who was giving a the AU position on the crisis in Libya said that it is a provocation of the African Countries to invade Libya without consulting the African Union governing body.

Rugunda added that NATO invaded Libya on pretext of fighting genocide by the Gaddafi government against the unarmed civilians which is untrue.

He said that Gaddafi was fighting a group of people who wanted to overturn the government; asking the NATO members to distinguish between a genocide and a civil strife.

Other AU members in the conference said that NATO use their weaponry superiority to destabilize the continent that has been at peace for about two decades.

The African Union (AU) member states have asked NATO to withdraw and the United Nation to take a middle ground in the war between the insurgents and the Libyan government.
