The Ministry of Finance has failed to honour the President’s directive to reimburse money to the Primary Teachers Colleges citing inefficient funds.
The Primary Teachers Colleges (PTCs) closed last week after the government failure to give them enough money at the beginning of the term.
The Minister of Education, Jessica Alupo told the journalists in Kampala that before the closure of the colleges she reported to the Ministry of Finance about the crisis in her ministry but little was done until the principals decided to close the institutions.
Alupo adds that she later reported the matter to President Museveni who has directed the Ministry of Finance to release the money but the latter has asked the colleges to remain closed for a week as the ministry sorts out itself in the new financial year that starts on July 1.
John Arinaitwe the Chairperson of the PTC principals association says that out of 1,800 shillings the government gives each student daily, they received 600 shillings for a student.
