The professors from different Universities and lawyers have asked the 9th Parliament which started activities in May to amend the constitution such that some interest groups like the army and the youths are no long represented in parliament.
They say the elections of the interest groups representatives are easily manipulated by the ruling government.
Professor John Barya says that the army is a bona fide member of the executive and according to the nature of the country the army must be loyal to the ruling government therefore they should not be in parliament in a country under multiparty dispensation.
He adds that the army representatives are not active in parliamentary activities but they only appear when there is a matter to vote on.
Barya says that the youths form the majority of the population in Uganda therefore five representatives in parliament is a small number and the youth bracket is not a permanent condition like disability.
The law makers have also been asked to restore presidential term limits that were scrapped in 2005.
